Restorative & Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dental procedures can not only improve your smile but can also boost your self-confidence. Dr. Shackelford and his experienced and friendly staff provide a full range of cosmetic and restorative dentistry services.

Comprehensive Exam

Our initial exam documents your current dental condition including gums, any cavities, loose fillings, TMJ, position of teeth as well as shape and color of your teeth. Together we create a plan that's right for you.

Crowns and Bridges

A "cap", "jacket" or "crown" will restore a broken, heavily filled or cracked tooth to its original size and shape. This may also be recommended after root canal therapy has been completed as the tooth tends to become brittle and is more apt to fracture. Crowns can strengthen and protect the remaining tooth structure and improve the appearance of your teeth. They can be made of all precious metal, porcelain and precious metal, or all porcelain, such as CEREC.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers, often alternatively termed dental veneers or dental porcelain laminates, are wafer thin shells of porcelain which are bonded onto the front side of teeth in order to cosmetically improve their appearance.

Typically veneers are difficult to stain, making veneers a very popular solution for many people seeking that perfect smile. Strong and very durable, veneers last from ten to fifteen years, and come in colors that will brighten dark teeth without the worry of them changing color.

Indications you may need a veneer:

Inlays and Onlays

These are solid fillings used to restore damaged or decayed teeth. They are often needed when there is not enough healthy tissue left in the tooth to support a regular filling. (If a tooth is severely damaged, a crown may be necessary to cover the entire surface instead of an inlay or onlay,) Unlike regular fillings, they strengthen rather than weaken the teeth. Inlays lie within the cusps, or bumps, on the surface of a tooth, while onlays cover one or more cusps.

American Dental Association recognizes only nine specialty areas. Cosmetic dentistry, TMJ, implant dentistry, Neuromuscular dentistry and Aesthetic dentistry are not part of these nine specialty areas. While Dr. Shackelford is a general dentist that has received training in these areas, since there is no ADA recognition of specialty in these areas, Georgia rules require the following statement. "Cosmetic dentistry, TMJ, implant dentistry, Neuromuscular dentistry and Aesthetic dentistry are specialty areas not recognized by the ADA that requires no specific educational training to advertise this service".
